VISION STATEMENT
Everyone should have the same opportunities to get involved in sports and have access to the tools with which they can learn how to exercise properly, without endangering their health.
NEEDS ANALYSIS
People around the world are less physically active and have sedentary lifestyle, which leads to obesity. In order to reduce the obesity pandemic, governments started to promote healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity. As a result, more people are slowly becoming physically active, but with that incidence of injuries is increasing. Due to the injury, people have to reduce hours of exercising or completely stop. Injuries also represent a social and economic (costs of visiting a doctor, physiotherapist, absence from work) burden for society. As exercise has major positive effects on physical and mental health, it is important that people still engage in physical activity, but work needs to be done on greater injury prevention. Stevenson idr., (2003) found that the risk of injury is reduced by 32% when the exercise program is led by professionals such as kinesiologist or physical therapists.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
According to Slovenian research Mediana 2013, 68% of the population in City of Ljubljana over the age of 15 years engages in sports at least once a week and more than 52% two to three times a week, but 82% of those people are active in unorganized sports. As described above, improper exercise is a major risk factor for injury. Therefore, we want to raise people’s awareness about importance of properly performed physical activity and increase the participation of people in organized sports or under the guidance of educated staff. Project will be open to anyone who wants to join.
METHODOLOGY
We will offer a 10,5 hours long free course (1.5 hours per week), where we will be performing exercise, teaching people about the correct performance of exercises, why physical activity is important and about a healthy lifestyle. It will take places on 3 sports islands – outdoor fitness (10 people per sport island) and will be divided into two parts: spring and autumn part. We will track whether people are more interested in physical activity and in participating in professionally guided forms of physical activity. The project will be implemented in cooperation with the organization TAFISA, Olympic Committee of Slovenia, the City of Ljubljana and the Sports Association of Ljubljana, under the mentorship of dr. Janez Vodičar.
