“Because I was brave enough to convince my parents to let me go to school instead of getting married, I’m able to do what I love the most – study.”
(Janaki Sah, 14, from Nepal – UNICEF, 2020)
On 11th October, join us in celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child! Every year on this date, UNICEF launches a campaign to give girls all over the world a platform to be heard and an opportunity to stand up for their rights.
Worldwide, almost 1 in 4 girls are neither employed or in education in comparison to almost 1 in 10 boys of the same age. This is only one of many statistics which highlights the necessity of the FLOT project, amongst many others, which are aiming to empower girls and women to lead from the front and pave the way for the next generations.
This year’s theme is “My Voice, Our Equal Future” and the focus will be on the following key challenges:
-
- Living Free from gender-based violence, harmful practices, HIV and AIDS
- Learn new skills towards the futures they choose
- Lead as a generation of activists accelerating social change
